I was told to come here because I didn't know where I could find this service.
Basically, I want to commission a custom GBA for my girlfriend as a gift. I don't really need any hardware mods (backlight or anything), I just need it painted with characters from this show that she likes (it'll be easy).

If anyone knows where I can get this done, I'd love you forever.

Thanks

Alright, I sent a message. Thanks big_smile

Anyone else know anything? I swear, when I looked into this like two years ago, it was really easy to find someone.

hiding under your bed

^Unfortunately it's a bit more difficult to find people for stuff like this these days.
A few of the more-popular aesthetic artists (like Thretris) retired from the scene a while back, and we lost a pretty decent-sized chunk of the chip community when 8bitcollective was finally shut down.
Not that the community hasn't built itself back up or that it isn't better for it, but it's definitely different.

Anyway, I've replied to your PM and once I get some more information from you I'll likely end up sending you a mockup image to make sure you know exactly what you'd be getting, and if I can't nail the exact style you want, I definitely suggest hitting up the Chiptunes = WIN Facebook group. There are plenty of great people over there who'd definitely be able to help you.

For me, I also think that you should talk to http://chipmusic.org/pianogameboy for more information

Where are you based?

there is a great modder in US called B_Tech on facebook and he has a great contact for custom Paint jobs, he can get it painted then sent to him for further light mods etc then sent to you

Canada, but it's completely fine if I have to pay for shipping, I'm sure it'd be worth it.

I'm talking to PianoGameboy now, I'm really hoping that we can make something work.

Out of curiosity, do you have a link to B_Tech's page? B_Tech brings up a lot of results on Facebook...

trying to find the painters page too

So that didn't really work, something apparently happened and luggage was lost and I can't find anyone else to do this. B_Tech just responded, they don't do painting anymore but they pointed me in the direction of their painter, I've sent him/her/them an email.

And uhh, if PianoGameboy reads this, can I have my money back..? My girlfriend's birthday is coming up fast and I have to find a new gift.
Anyways though, thanks for the help, I guess it just wasn't meant to be haha.

I'm not sure what happened to Vex as well, he was another painter on here that just kinda disappeared. You can try to message him to see if he's still up for it.  A lot of his stuff was posted on this thread.

Yeah, I was super excited when PianoGameboy said he could do it, it's seriously impossible to find people who do this stuff. I don't know if I should keep looking for this or just give up and buy flowers and chocolate, haha.

Do you have a pic of the characters you wanted done for the GB? That might not scare off some of the painters that might still be around.

Just search up Homestuck, it's some web comic thing? I don't know, I can't get into it.
Super easy characters though, literally drawn in Microsoft Paint. If there are any artists around, just shoot me a PM and I'll fill you in on all the details big_smile

Edit - that was a really bad reply. The specific characters from Homestuck that she likes are Karkat, Roxy and Kanaya. They all have wiki pages that have artwork, but I'm on a mobile so that'd be difficult.
