I'd prefer to handle something like this privately and avoid unnecessary public confrontation and/or potential arguments, and I don't like to make public accusations/call-outs (and I don't necessarily intend to do so right now), but I need to clear some things up and possibly call some other things into question.
Stephen contacted me in late December asking to purchase the Nintendo Gay Boy from me. Standard buyer/seller convo ensued, he talked me down on the price a little bit, I got his address, and we came to an agreement. No, I was not accepting Paypal. I myself had recently been scammed out of quite a bit more than $85 and a decent amount of merch/parts, and the lack of a proper resolution left a bad taste in my mouth. I recommended payment directly through Facebook Messenger, as a lot of my other artist and modding friends have been using it as an alternative to Paypal for little one-offs and commissions. I'd heard nothing but good things about it, used it a couple times myself without issues, it's supposedly just as safe as Paypal but a little easier to deal with on both ends when a deal goes weird. Stephen was apparently unable to use this method for some reason. He said the service probably wasn't available where he lives, which, looking back, strikes me as a bit odd considering I've previously used it with friends who reside in the UK without any issues. He instead recommended a direct bank transfer through a service called TransferWise. Never heard of it before and generally when you hear stuff about bank transfers in online deals you'd stay away from it, but Stephen had a couple of trusted mutual friends on Facebook so he seemed legit, and I needed the money. After a quick googling of TransferWise to see whether or not it was legit, everything looked A-OK for the most part, so we proceeded with the transaction, and I sent him the Gay Boy. We didn't use international tracking because that stuff is expensive AF and any issues like this are few and far between, if they even happen at all. I'll admit, that was my bad. As previously mentioned in this thread, from now on I will only be doing international shipping at my own discretion, with mandatory international tracking.
Fast forward to last month when Stephen made a couple public posts claiming I'd scammed him. I made my previous post in this thread vowing to either figure out what had happened to the Gay Boy if I could, and if I couldn't I would send him a new one, since I was planning on putting a few more together anyway and frankly this whole ordeal was causing me more stress than it was worth and I didn't want to have deal with it for that much longer.
The post office of course had no clue how to help me so I ended up making him a new Gay Boy. I had it packaged and ready to go out Monday night and I dropped it off at the post office yesterday morning. Curiously, Stephen seemed to ignored the message I sent to him about the matter but sent me another message asking why I wasn't replying. I'm... confused by this. "Facebook says he's seen the message, but maybe we're just experiencing some weird hiccup in Messenger or something?" I wonder. I send him another message. He doesn't reply. I figure if I don't hear back from him within the next day I'll shoot him an email and maybe a PM here on CMO. (sidenote: I just realized that I don't have your email address, Stephen. I'd appreciate it if you could PM it to me or send me an email at [email protected])
But I didn't have to do either of those things. He replied. I woke up today to a message calling me a charlatan and several Facebook notifications to let me know he'd left some comments on my original sale post from December in the ChipWin Facebook group while I was asleep. A few people responded to his comments, a couple of people unfriended me, and Hoodie disabled comments on the post. Not sure what else to do, I decided to check here, found that this thread was still active, and here we are.

tl;dr recap:
-Sketchy bank transfer was not my idea, I was hesitant but I took the offer anyway because Stephen seemed legit and I needed the cash.
-Communication with Stephen has been pretty sus, especially with Facebook over the last couple of days leading up to the most recent post, and for some reason he won't just email me directly or PM me on here.
-I've now sent this guy two Gay Boys, and I at least have the tracking on the latest one to prove when he receives it.
-This is starting to feel like borderline libel and harassment from where I'm standing and I really don't appreciate it.

The dude is getting his Game Boy. The only reason he isn't get a refund instead is because apparently the only option we have is sketchy bank transfers and I'm not comfortable dealing with that again. I have done all that I can do, and I'm done.

P.S. I'm PMing him his new tracking number here on CMO right now. I'd also send him an email but I do not have his email address.

@UnexpectedBowtie: HeyHiHello, I've been messaging you as best I can through Facebook, and I sincerely apologize for the lack of communication this week, I have been *insanely* busy. I was actually just talking about this with someone earlier today, saying if I wasn't able to figure out where tf your DMG went, I would assemble a new one and re-ship *with international tracking this time*, totally out of my own pocket (I was planning on making a few more Gay Boys anyway, after noticing a bit more interest in them in both this thread and on Facebook). I'm either about to start shipping international orders with non-optional tracking (which unfortunately is fairly expensive), or stop doing international orders altogether, because this is like the third time an international order has gone missing and it's driving me crazy.

I really appreciate the support and concern. I've... kinda been put through the wringer over the past year. I'm not too keen on making the details public, but it's a combination of life dealing me a shitty hand, and honestly my own personal failure to handle things as best as I probably could have. Had multiple massive anxiety attacks and went AFK/MIA for a few months last year. Ended up literally running away for a little while. Fun stuff. (Sarcasm. That was sarcasm. It wasn't fun.) It took a while but things have gotten a *lot* better. Been eager to ease back into the modding/chiptune scene for the past few months, but things were SUPER-slow-going for a little while. Actually just declared in my personal friend circles last week that I'm back in a fully operational position and ready to start churning out some cool stuff again. Hopefully after the issues with the Gay Boy and with Arnie's commission are taken care of you guys can start seeing more from me pretty soon.

@EGR: Hi. Long time no see. or... speak. Or something. Coincidentally I was going to message you on Facebook later this evening. I'm still going to message you momentarily, but I do want to publicly acknowledge the fact that this is totally and completely 100% my fault and I take full responsibility for it. This has actually been eating at me for a pretty long time now. I was really excited about your order- both because of what specifically had been ordered, and because honestly, you're a super rad dude and one of the people I kinda look up to in the community. I know in the past we'd kind of kicked around the idea of potentially doing some collab work on some Game Boy Colors and I was hoping your DMG could've helped kind of segway into that. I really, really hope this isn't coming off as me trying to be a suck up or something. I'm kind of worried it is. But I'm running on like two hours of sleep right now and can't think of a different way to word it. I do mean this genuinely though. Anyway, I'm rambling- This is my own fuck up and I sincerely apologize for it, and for how I've handled it, or rather how I didn't handle it. As previously mentioned, I basically quit the internet as best I could for a little while and hid/ran from most of my problems, which was a ridiculously stupid thing to do. I'll be messaging you personally in a few minutes to try to sort this out.

If anyone else would like to get in touch with me directly for any reason, the best way to do so is still to email me at [email protected]. I haven't been keeping up with PMs on CMO (only reason I caught this thread was because Nanode sent me a personal message on Facebook), but my email is setup to go straight to my phone again, so I'll do my best to respond to those ASAP.

-Joshua

EDIT: ohjeez, I didn't see the thing about Gil Baker until just now. Rest In Peace, dude. hmm

I don't mind shipping outside of the US, it'll just cost a little more. Shoot me a PM, yo.

Definitely looking forward to whatever comes out of this.

Normally it would make things a bit cheaper, but taking into account shipping to and from Spain/the US, (You are in Spain, right? :v ) there may not be much of a price difference at that point.

RSB, I replied to your PM.
SSBM, I know that feel, bro. Feel free to hit me up any time later if you'd be interested in a custom commissioned system though! smile

Updated OP.

Hey guys, I have a few backlight-ready DMGs and some parts sitting around that I'm not using for anything else at the moment, and I need some quick cash (I'm a liiitle short on my rent for next week :v ) so I'm selling these basically for cost of parts!
Both the black DMG and the clear DMG have been sold! But feel free to hit me up if you'd like a commissioned system! Scroll down for more examples!

"SquidKid" Splatoon-themed DMGs - $70 shipped each OBO

Also for sale, I have 6 unused orange HHL DMG backlights (resistors included), and 6 navy blue screen covers. Would cost roughly $70+shipping if you order from them, but I'm selling these for $55 shipped.

I also do custom commissions! Current turnaround time is about 3 weeks. Shoot me a message for details/pricing!

Why can't we all just get along? sad

I have like 4 or 5 front PCBs I've come across over the past year or so that have this issue, and I have no clue what to do to fix it, if there is a way to fix it. Have any of you come across this issue and know what to do with it, or at least have any ideas as to what it could be?
Some of them have gotten like this shortly after peeling the film off the backside of the LCD, so I figured I was maybe too rough with the ribbon cables, but after thorough inspection they seem fine, and I've also run into a couple of systems that have this issue before being opened up or anything. On a couple of them depending on where you have the contrast dial set it shows some faint lines on the screen that get ever-so-slightly lighter or darker, as pictured below.

Any idea how to deal with this?

whats the purpose of a hacked 3ds ( besides playing lsdj)? is it there more homebrew ? can you play games from outside your region? etc

Yep! You can play any gamecard from outside of your region. There's also a steadily growing list of various handy homebrew apps, tons of retro emulators, the ability to use gameshark-like codes in games, modify games for things like fan-translations or Sm4sh mods/custom Mario Kart tracks, you can make custom system menu themes, and as long as your system is on firmware 9.2 or below* you're able to pirat- I mean, install your totally legal backups of full 3DS games that you totally already own physical copies of, and backup/restore your whole system, among other neat things.

*or if you have a system with firmware 10.4 (or is it 10.5? I don't remember) or lower you can downgrade to 9.2 and THEN do all the stuff I already said.

I'm catching up on commissions I fell behind on a while back due to a combination of poor estimation of cost for some bigger projects and then more recently some family shit I'm not gonna delve into here. Unhappy customers. feelsbadman.jpg sad
After that's taken care of, though, I've got a couple ideas lined up for semi-secret future projects in the coming months that I think are gonna turn out great. smile

You need a resistor on that backlight, bro. It should've come with one. Who'd you order from?
Also, I suggest you clip those wires wayyyy shorter. Otherwise they're a hassle to deal with when you're reassembling the system. They either end up getting in the way of a screwpost or they get stuck underneath the dpad/A/B buttons, keeping them from working properly once you have it put back together.

What firmware is the 3DS running? (it should say in the bottom right corner of the top screen when you open system settings. pls do not try to update it tho)
