This Christmas ill be getting the korg padkontrol, nanokey, and monotron (for brain storming). A atr-20 mic, Pyle Pro PHPDJ1 headphones, fairly new krk audio monitors (for free) along with a new mouse, keyboard, and monitor (for free). All coming together in the latest version of Ableton i can get my rum soaked hands on. wink

Im working on a budget of $400. Am i doing it wrong or so right (for the money)

what

If you have to ask, then no.

moved to audio production...but really, why are you asking people who dont know you? setups are a very personal thing, so i couldnt tell you what you should get on a $400 budget, since i have no idea what you want to do

Gimme the 400$ and I'll buy some stuff.

I call troll.

umm...okay.

i've heard the korg nanoseries have mediocre-poor build quality, i just got an Akai LPD8 and that's pretty sweet,
if you're looking at the nanokey you might wanna check this out, http://www.akaipro.com/mpkmini
it has the keys and some pads and knobs all in one little package.

but more importantly, don't make a thread just to show off all this gear you're getting, if you have specific questions that's fine. but to just say "hey chipmusic, i'm getting a whole done of stuff" is pointless. If you're asking if you're whole setup is good, clearly it isn't, work with what you have and see what you need. If you've never used ableton before don't assume that it's going to be what you like using best

The akai looks nice but i just dont have the money for it right now. I wanna keep the cost to about $70.
I wasnt trying to brag, i dont think having a $400 budget is a big move. My question was basically, is there better equipment out there for around the same amount of money. yes ive used ableton before its great.

Not sure if troll, but I'll bite.

Ableton has its own piano keyboard on your keyboard. I just use that until I got a much larger keyboard. So in that aspect of saving money, don't buy a keyboard.

I highly recommend a AKAI LPD8. Its an amazing piece of hardware and super versitile. Hell, I even DJ off of it on traktor, but back to the point, its pretty badass.

In the end, this is the main point of making music in general. Equipment will come and go, but the actual composition is where lies the true genius.

Agreed

Thats just it though, my keyboard is to big, im about to use this tiny desk and i need all this stuff to fit on it. Thats why i want the nano
but this isnt the first time ive heard of its poor build quality so im looking for a cheap basic midi, nothing special.

I honestly just suggest you use the Ableton keyboard, but if you want to get that, go for it.
