Personally, I think the dark grey around posts and stuff is a bit too dark, but it's not that big a deal.
The design really reminds me of the blipfest '09 site.
I popped over to "oxygen" and my eyes burnt out.
This is style is juuuuuussst right....... all smooth colors that you can stare at in the dark.

Maybe that is because the same designers from blips past have been doing the design here. 
Also, arlen, just as a test, are you able to see all of the different grays in the following image? Twenty-one distinct squares from black to white on top level and in reverse at the bottom.
If not, the darkness of this thread may stem from an uncalibrated monitor.

I can and its still pretty dark :d
I would like a lighter theme, my eyes are grim.
There will be a white theme in the future, rest assured. 
black back ground and white text are the number one eye destroyer in most american homes. looks great but the practicality is of reading large amounts of text in this color scheme is painful to the reader. excited for the white theme.
I like dark background/light text since I mostly have the lights turned off. White backgrounds are too bright.
