Von Neumann Machines

By EvilWezil on Mar 1, 2010 11:37 pm

Von Neumann Machines are any machine that can make a copy of itself given the appropriate materials. Should a Von Neumann nanomachine ever be invented that can reconstitute matter into itself at the molecular level, it would turn the entire world into itself. Track is sludgy and mechanical like that death.

This is Track 4 from my next album, an electro-classical space odyssey "Requiem for a Dying Star", which is done, but won't be released for another couple months or so... Cus I said so. (...Mostly cus I'ma make hard presses of all my albums, including this, once my 1G tax refund comes back!... )

Hot fucking damn.  Your delay and layer is superv.  I've never heard industrial/egyptian sound soOOO Fine.  This made me sit back and think about creativity.  And myself at the same time.  Beautiful.

And I totally said that only because you guys were talking about scales and sound concepts and doppler and other cool stuff.

Oh yes, very yes. Funny thing, I never noticed the similarity between von Neumann grey goo and Strangelets until now (association chain went something like Track title to Album title to Quark Star). Chalk me up for physical copies of your albums, please.

Uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh... hrrrmmmm... welllll....  yes... that.... definitely... definitely that thing you said....
Damnit, DP... you caught me. I have no idea what I'm doing. Ever. I do all my mess by ear.
The whole song is built around that very first phrase that's just a note slowly sliding down by one half step with that long, held bass afterwards.
The album is very motif-heavy and that particular phrase was introduced in a previous song on the album. It was meant to imitate the Doppler effect, starting panned right at that half-step higher pitch and then it moves across center and over to left rapidly, sliding down that half step and fading out.
I wanted to take that phrase and build a song around it, so it was all structured to accommodate that half-step drop without causing any dissidence, resulting in what I just wrote off as a bunch of accidentals. I'm sure it's been done before, and I'm sure it has a name, so if you figure out what it is, do tell!

Love the pacing of this, and that first harmonic section that has the minor and major 3rd in the melody, awesome! ... what scale is that? I didn't bother to analyze, I was too busy enjoying it. smile

Chill yer beans/testicles, stripper album "Babymaker" comes out after this one, y'all!

This is nice, but where the eff the stripper album at yo?  {(|)}

A  would listen again

Damn - those textures are fabulous. And the depth. EvilWezil never ever disappoints. Grade A composition.

awesome

I really love how this track builds up and progressively takes form.

Such a good intro!
