Adulthood

Adulthood

By Starpilot on Nov 30, 2012 6:55 am

Slamming ourselves speeding into credit card walls

Mindlessly traipsing suicide through shopping malls

Drilling pharmaceutical poison holes in our heads

Signing up for candy we can't eat until we're dead

Filling up on coffee breaks until we buy new pants

Reading lying newspapers we fill ourselves with rants

Then going to the sweaty gym to work off all the shame

And putting ourselves down again because we are to blame

We are adults

We are not children anymore

We are adults

We speak

Never listen

Until our heads are on the floor

Toxify our souls with stress until we turn hostile

And put another bullet in the gun of self-denial

Insurance bill infections climb majestic picket fences

Suddenly we only give to even our expenses

We walk the streets perpetually entwined with our desires

We beat our chests all ape-like in the sexy moonlit hours

Strip ourselves of truth until we can't see past our fears

Drop bombs of fences to the earth, ignore each other's tears

We are adults

We are not children anymore

We are adults

We speak

Never listen

Until our heads are on the floor

Childhood is just as juvenile as adulthood, but without the ego

At least a child knows it's a child

We are adults

We are not children anymore

We are adults

We speak

Never listen

Until our heads are on the floor

lol. well thanx. and i guess it might be a bit preachy to those who cling to the traditional ideas of %u2018adult%u2019 reality. i never really saw it as preachy and in fact tried to write it in a way that wasn't. it's just an ironic take on the truths of adult life in the modern world. no where does it tell you what to do or how to live. but i can see how you might see it that way if you find yourself living this way.  i guess the fact that you found it preachy shows that the lyrics struck a chord with you on some level, which is kinda what i wanted. the purpose of this song wasn't to change anyone's mind directly. it was to awaken awareness in the way many of us live. not saying anything is right or wrong here, it's just that many of us live our lives without being fully aware of our lives. such is the paradox of adulthood, the illusion of awareness without actually being aware. thanx for listening! smile

Good production values, good melody, catchy, good drums, but very very preachy. I guess maybe reggae is supposed to be a bit preachy, but I dunno. Very solid and cool otherwise.
