I notice on forums that most people export their lsdj songs chanel by chanel. This seems like a very basic mixing thing that somehow I missed, I'll certainly be doing that in the future as well.
Thanks for the imput folks. This was my first venture into the mixing and recording of my pieces, and looking back on it, it could probably use a bit more of that piano. I might even ditch the instrumental part after the 2nd chorus all together, I can totally see where gyms is coming from with the way the intensity dips there. Thanks a ton for the feedback.
and i can hear where there were perhaps attempts at some hissy hat/crash aesthetic, but i feel that it fails to really drive the energy like convincing hats should. part of this could be a mixing problem, but it seems mostly to be an ish with the sound design.
i'd like to clarify, "the instrumental sections kind of drag the energy down"...to be a bit more constructive:
it's missing some hats! hats and cymbals are huge energy drivers and i think they're completely absent from this. i think if you dropped in some hat lines and punctuate with cymbal crashes at spots where the song picks up, it'd really make this thing soar. especially, in the instrumental sections~
I wasn't really paying attention to the lyrics, but I liked the sound of this, man. I could barely discern the piano from the gameboy. It kind of got drowned out. I liked the instrumental sections, though if you lean more towards gyms' comments, I think it'd sound pretty good at the end of the song as a sort of outro type thing.
I have a soft spot for this sort of music too
hey i'm really a sucker for these kind emotional punky vibes. overall it's pretty effective stuff and succeeds at making me feel that good ol angsty heartthrobbing knot; i like it.
the mix could definitely be better i think and the instrumental sections kind of drag the energy down, but there's a lot of potential for this to really hit people where they like it, who dig this kind of sound : ))
