i don't think repeating ideas is a bad thing, tho it can make it easier to fall into that repetitive trap. the key, when repeating sections, is to focus on not repeating it the exact same way. perhaps change the melody or chord progression just a tad, but still have the same flow and feel..or have the hats move around a little bit more, have the drums do something different...or change the sounds of the instruments a little bit...or put some parts an octave higher, anything to keep it from sounding exactly the same. a good tune always has a flow to it, starts out normal and builds energy and interest, then comes back down; it's telling a story. i think if you always focus on establishing a flow and telling a story, you can never go wrong! smile

Thanks for the criticism! I too feel that I have a problem with becoming too repetitive. I usually make three or four different "parts" that I go back and forth between the whole song and I have a bit of a struggle getting out of that thought-pattern. If anyone have any good tips on how to practice song structure, please tell me smile I will absolutely try to think more of the overall dynamics in the next song.

this is some groovy stuff, i like it! my only cc is that it starts to feel a bit repetitive towards the middle and onward. i think it could use more energetic variation when sections repeat, the momentum seems to stagnate a little. maybe use elements of contrast with instrument envelopes between sections and make use of overall dynamics to emphasize the chorus and other cool parts. more varied and energetic percussion stuff on repeated sections might help too.
