Personally I prefer the RCA jacks just because they fit more snug and are less likely to pull out when you don't want them to.  However, even just doing an internal 1/8" mod (using the existing 1/8" socket to output your "pro" sound) will do the trick.

I like a sleeve connection better than a point to point.  Not sure if that alone changes the quality.
