Hey all, I'm pleased to announce that DataPort is coming back to Portland, courtesy of the folks at Backspace! Our current plan is to do this every other month. If we can build up enough of a momentum, it may become a monthly occurrence somewhere down the road with space for workshops and open mics.
To really kick this launch off in style, our friends from the excellent gaming podcast "A Jumps! B Shoots!" (http://ajumpsbshoots.com/) will be screening the chip music doc "Reformat the Planet" at the Hollywood Theater the following night. (TRAILER: http://vimeo.com/665366)

An electronic musician based in New York City, Bit Shifter explores high-impact, low-res music produced using primitive gear and synthesis as a deliberate aesthetic choice. Adopting a distillation of the less-is-more philosophy, Bit Shifter operates with a standard Nintendo Game Boy as a means of exploring the aesthetics of economy, pushing minimal hardware to its maximum.
He is also in it for the lolz.

LA-based chip musician, Trash80, utilizes obsolete computer/video game hardware and modern technology to fuse unique melodies with hard-edged dance music. A developer of numerous software applications and hardware hacks, he is the brain behind the Arduinoboy, an open-source project for the Game Boy that enables communication with musical instruments. Trash80 can be seen rocking stages internationally… when he’ s not at your mom’ s house.
