Try running a heavily modulated chorus through a short reverb for one.

I've experimented with running vox through my Cube Street set to kill. It works, but like you said Dan, feedback all over the place.

I think a distortion pedal was what Old Grey Wolf was using on his vocals when he performed at blip australia. IMO it kind of ruined the performance.

All that gain will be a nightmare. Also, the distortion would most certainly cut out any lows from your vocals, since their beuilt with guitar range in mind.
