Stacking it with a noise snare. But if I'm using the wav channel for kicks, then I like to make a snare with a table to make it more snappy/punchy. Here's a kick I just made after reading your post. It's not the best example, but:

BPM: 128

Instrument: Noise
Note: C3

Envelope: B1
Shape: C3

Table:
tsp

H04 (H command making it hop back to 04)

Another common snare I like is

inst: noise

etc

messing around with the values in the table and the shape in the instrument.
