ZAIUSZ says:

Overview
This post marks the release of the SEGA Master System MIDI Interface (SMSM) device.

SMSM is an interface that takes MIDI data and controls the sound chip inside of the SEGA Master System in real time. The idea is to send MIDI data to the SEGA Master System using a MIDI sequencer or MIDI keyboard via the SMSM, which then sends the appropriate audio signal out of the console via its AV port or a direct output port.

So for example, if a MIDI note C is sent to the SMSM, then the SEGA sound chip will play a tone with pitch of a C. The PSG SN76489 sound chip is supported as well as the FM YM2413 sound chip (which is found in Japanese models of SEGA Mater System).

----- TUTORIALS AND INFORMATION -----

It should be easy to make an SMSM following these straightforward instructions:
- SMSM with Serial Input: http://little-scale.blogspot.com.au/201 … -midi.html
- SMSM for Game Gear: http://little-scale.blogspot.com.au/201 … -gear.html
- SMSM with Native 5 Pin DIN MIDI Socket: http://little-scale.blogspot.com.au/201 … n-din.html
- SMSM with Default NSTC Modification: http://little-scale.blogspot.com.au/201 … ation.html

joshuapenman says:
I am wondering if anybody would like to make a Sega Megadrive game collaboratively?

I am not a programmer and I know I will get a lot of stick for this.

I am interested in the sound capabilities of the Sega Megadrive and have used the various emulation software of the YM2612.

I read books on the commodore 64 to try and learn basic.

I am interested in the potential of all consoles.

I have been using deflemask and while helping my brother open a 3 digit combination lock from 0-9 I started thinking about the parameters of instruments in deflemask. In order to open the lock after forgetting the code you would have to do 1000 combinations to complete all combinations for the lock.

I am currently trying to work out all the combinations for the parameters of Deflemasks Sega Megadrive/Genesis instruments.

This would make a complete list of instruments that can be produced in Deflemask at least.

I am aware of variously talented people in the community. The likes of Little-Scale, Aly James and for other systems Diode Milliampere.

I am trying to find out if there is a community that wants to produce games for the Sega Megadrive as this is what I would like to do.

I appreciate this may be a waste of time. I would be willing to learn if I can teach myself or others can teach me.

Joshua

GenMDM - SSG-EG Envelope settings?

category.zd says:
Hello,

I am working on a little DIWhy project to build a controller for GenMDM similar to what Look Mum No Computer did here with his Megadrive Synth. For testing and prototyping I have successfully managed to get MIDI signals to the genMDM with the Max 4 Live device provided by Little-scale, and some custom mappings on my Launchkey37. And yes I played notes and got sound on all 10 channels. Didn't try CH3 special mode yet...

Anyway...

The SSG-EG parameters for genMDM seems to have some inconsistent documentation around it. In the MIDI mapping doc, the data range is 16. In the M4L device, the values range from 0-31. From 3 different software-based YM2612 tools I've played with, there are only 8 SSG patterns, and OFF. Deflemask did their own thing and added an Enable tick box with a 0-7 data slider.

It's going to be very tricky to manually figure out when each SSG pattern kicks in, so I'm wondering if anyone's managed to figure out the data values? Worst case I can... try.

Cheers!

So I listened what I did on deflemask on my megadrive 1, but I can hear a "hum" on the real hardware and some instruments are too long (this can probably fixed with note off)

These who use deflemask, do you generally record on real sega genesis/megadrive or export directly to wav via emulator?

I'm just talking about the sound quality, not about the cool thing of play it with megadrive. I didn't compare yet with my monitor sound system yet but I yould like to know what people usually do.

PS : I use deflemask on an ipad, it sounds very good

wedanced says:
I opened my model 1 to clean it, check on the capacitors, and figure out if I wanted to perform any mods on the unit and was confused by what I saw. I can't seem to find a picture of the circuit board that matched mine and the unit board is labeled in a strange way.

Typically the model 1 boards are labeled "IC BD M5 USA" with a revision number like VA2, VA3, VA4, etc. Mine doesn't include a VA labeling at all and has some additional text just below it that I haven't seen anywhere else. Does anyone have a clue about what's up with my unit and what revision it is?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ml6izylnt0zq2 … y.jpg?dl=0
