I have found a way to fix that if you mess up and carve out a little too much.

use epoxy with a toothpick to dab it on and build that hole back up, a little too much so you can sand out some more.

use colored epoxy if you need to but with the black shells you can use a sharpie to color it back in.

I also have a korg X3 synth listed on my ebay page too if anyone is interested.

Has a red inverted backlight which in the pics look pink but trust me it is red.
