If size is no problem I would recommend you the Yamaha RM1X. One of the best hardware sequencers ever made. You can go really deep with the midi editing. I bought my last one for about $100 a few years ago.

Also check out QY700, QY300 and RS7000. Haven't tried any of them though.

its got this drum sequencer bit which you can do your drum patterns on and chords and then you can arrange the patterns you made and put 4 tracks of arbitrary midi over the top (but the tracks are polyphonic so its not like chiptune). really cool id say go for it
