sand paper will change the texture and corrosives, even light-, will smooth the plastic and make it cloudy looking.

You can try an acetone+water combo starting off with nearly no acetone. 10:1 ratio for starters maybe.
Before that though, wash the surface with goo-gone (not goof-off) to see if it dissolves the text. If it does not, no harm done.
