Sounds like improper solder points. Check to make sure they are properly soldered, there is no bridging and that all the wires are properly attachded to the backlight.

Also try new batteries.
High quality reachargeables work the best, such as "Eneloop" or "EBL".

Anyway I just finished putting a backlight in my pocket and every time I press start to play a loop in LSDJ the backlight just shuts off. I've read that it could be the cart but I'm not sure, is a 64m smartcard 1212 compatible with the pocket? Any advice would be great. Thank you.
