I'm beginning to think the mod is pointless.

ummmm............................................................ use adapters or just the proper cables with one prosound mod, save the time and energy and parts?

sorry i'm a dick. i highly recommend just doing the one 1/4th or one 1/8th mod. Kitsch had a good tutorial up on his site for that

It'll work yes, but your left and right channels will be reversed because that diagram isn't correct.

Yeah it works. You have 2 places you can prosound from, pre and post-pot. You can use headphones either way, only difference is being able to turn the volume down.

I've always done the mod using the original headphone jack.  This is how it's wired:

The thing is, I'm able to use headphones with it.  Is this normal?  Maybe I'm missing something somewhere?  Does this version of the internal prosound mod actually work?

Old thread, but I've done a number of mods like that.

Try finding a 1/4" jack socket meant for a guitar. You can get ones that are a slimline fully encased barrel design.

Like this:

There pretty long but much thinner than standard pannel mount jacks

yeah I had to try like 4 different jacks before I found one that fit, try Fry's Electronics if you're in the U.S.

Finding a slim form 1/4" jack can be a pain. Most case-mount 1/4" jacks are too large to fit into the game boy.

However, it is entirely possible if you find one that'll fit.

I have a gameboy that I modified myself with RCA and 1/4" prosound and I rewired the original headphone jack to make it prosound, it's a fairly simple process, here's links to the tutorials I used

The DMG I am using now was pro-sounded by Lowgain, and I use the pro sound jack with my headphones when I'm writing.  It has much less of the harsh noise than the headphone jack.  Works fine for me.  *shrug*

Pro sound mods aren't ideal for headphones, it takes the signal before it's routed to the amp so it's purer, but not strong enough for standard headphone use.

My Dear Chipmusicians,
I'd like to, eventually, add an RCA pro sound mod and a 1/8" pro sound to my DMG.  Maybe even potentially a 1/4".  Has anyone done this that can tell me what I'd need to do to wire up 2 or even all 3?  I'm thinking I'd want post pot pro sound to retain the volume control for at least the 1/8" and the 1/4" so I could use headphones.  RCA volume control is not essential.  Thanks, people!
