We're looking at getting some awesome freebies to give out with our releases - 5 minute mini-CDs and stickers and the like

all my CDs will come with a small sticker of my face. so you can stick my face in any place.

We're selling all releases for a maximum of £3, with £1 postage on top, or £2 worldwide. Postage in the UK actually averages slightly over £1 including packing, so we lose a little money there.

But yeah - thesimplicity got it right on the head. We want to make something nice for people to buy, in numbers that people will purchase them for. We don't exclusively limit our releases to certain numbers - I produced 10 of my CD because I don't think I'll sell many more than that. If I sell them all, I'll make another batch of 5 to sell.

Plus, we don't have the money to get huge runs done hahahah
And it's nice to hand produce CDs, being creative with them, and doing stuff on a small and personal scale. We aren't against big runs or whatever, we're just a group of friends being creative and putting out music in a fun and creative way, for cheap as well haha

I have no affiliation with White Sleeve Collective, but I belong to a similar collective where we do really small print runs of our music (10-30 copies on average) because, honestly, it's a pain in the ass to insure quality and consistency in numbers larger than that.  Especially when it's a hobby project like a collective and not a business.  Things like printing inserts, ordering paper for inserts, mixing inks and matching colors for silkscreening/letterpressing, and overall material costs are much more manageable when you only need to make twenty copies. A lot of these things can be done in batches as needed if you're not specifying an edition number for the release, but it's tough to make sure the finished product is consistent in quality compared to earlier batches when you're doing a DIY setup.

Not to mention the overall drive to just make a physical release and have it done, then move on to making something else.

...but equally, that is my interpretation of what you're trying to do, so please correct/ignore my comments where necessary.

I think it's a great concept, but I also think that you're missing the point a bit by putting out a limited number of copies of any one release. I read that you've limited your own album release to 10 copies, but why? Surely what you're doing is creating a way to avoid paying for expensive high-number print runs and pass on those savings to your customers, in order to get the word out about the artists in your collective in an interesting and equally cost-efficient manner. Limiting your print runs, which are designed to be produced easily at home, seems non-sensical.

I fully support what you're trying to do, but I think you've yet to realise the true brilliance behind your own concept.
