The post below would've helped even for the first pocket I did successfully, because I didn't know how fragile the ribbon cable at the bottom is. I think it seems to be another one of those "no fix" situations as far as I've searched.

I've never backlit a DMG, but somehow I managed to backlight a pocket without any problems.

yeah sometimes it will come off sometimes it fights you. if you have hot air station you can desloder the bottom ribbon cable and that makes it a lot easier

is it always impossible to clean the stuff off the lcd though?

Backlighting pocket screens blows. it's a skill you have to have a bold ambition to acquire

Recently i decided to backlight a gameboy pocket. I have backlit around 4 dmgs without any trouble, so i thought it would be easy.  i found this tutorial just for some help http://mikejmoffitt.com/wp/?p=10 and it didn't look so bad. Anyways, i get to the step where you remove the back layer/polarizer with a razor blade, and it's fucking impossible. i ended up only peeling off the foil layer at first, and the polarizer layer came off unevenly.
(you take off both layers right?)

Anyways, now it was covered with this sticky crap, and i couldn't clean it with rubbing alcohol. It looked terrible, but I thought i might as well see if it works. when i went to turn it on, i experienced the same problem as this person did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSqH77srdew  so i guess i damaged the ribbon cables while trying to peel that off.

So i guess i ruined one gameboy pocket lcd, and i'm reluctant to try backlighting another. I see a good number of backlit gameboy pockets on the internet, so i figured it's not to hard to do.

So was this screen just defective, or is it always this hard to peel the polarizer/reflector off a gameboy pocket screen? And are there any tips that will make it easy, or a video showing someone doing it? I really don't want to break another gameboy pocket screen.
