No, he meant like pressing play on one unit and record on the other., connected by a standard 5-pin MIDI cable.

Mind explaining a bit more? Does involve hacking up some sort of MIDI-1/4in or 1/8in cable? This sounds very interesting.

Interesting AVR project. Here is a thread on the MidiBox MIDIO128 code (which has midi player function built in). LPC ARM, SD card socket, and midi ports.

I imagine if they had nsfs that's what they'd do. From what I gather they have sequenced midi in something ableton and are feeding that to the nes directly via the midines.

There is an easy AVR midi player I am fairly confident will function with midines. You just load up an sd card with your .mid (format 0) files and it will play them like it was a midi Walkman of sorts. I have been actually meaning to build one of these up and install it inside my nes. But I've yet to test it.

you can just record them in like you would a tape deck.

Sorry for bumping this old thread. My english is not so good so I couldn't find the answer to a very simple question : in this MMT-8, is there any way to "import" MIDI files to it, rather than programming them on the hardware ?
I'm looking for any hardware on which I can load midi files that can be played and sent too the MidiNES, if you guys have further information on this.

Why not just play back NSF's with a Powerpak or similar?

Yeah, I haven't used a ton of different programs to control midiNES, but Ableton is pretty awesome for setting up insane stuff with midi.

my current setup includes running midi out from ableton to two NES' and sending audio back into ableton using a FireWire audio interface. This might be off topic a little, but having it set up this way lets you layer any synth / drum sample / Capella even compress or add effects onto your midiNES and play them back in real time. the only thing you need to remember if you try and do it this way is to pay attention to lag from your interface and adjust your midi signals to send a couple milliseconds early so it syncs up with anything else you have going on in Ableton. all though this set up isn't exactly portable, it is awesome to play with.

well this could be getting a little off topic but with my old garbage laptop i managed to run ableton with midines and had little to no issues.  Now i spent all of my money on a nice laptop and i dont really have anything to record with. 

IF i had some extra cash a fun set-up would be running ableton driving midines with midi.  From there i always thought it would be fun to scratch nes(or any other midi device for that matter) live with traktor or something...   Just provoking further conversation.

also, while i love piggy for midines, it has some real limitations... ive written plenty of midines piggy tracks that i have to simplify to avoid them causing the piggy midi interface to crash.. still never figured out why it happens, but a quick unplug->replug gets me going in no time... seems to be just overloading it with midicc via tables
