Perhaps an easier solution would be some way of holding the cart securely in place inside the genesis. You can get mini bungee cords from home depot that are probably good enough, and have to be other options too. Just clean the connector first. Trying to replace the cart slot sounds risky unless you're experienced with soldering, and trying solder the everdrive directly in the genesis sounds like quite a sacrifice, you're ruining a perfectly good genesis...

Although this connector may work, the original Sega Genesis connector has at both ends added plastic with holes for screws that secure the connector to the bottom plastic case for added support.

Has anyone come across a replacement for this original style of connector??

I'm good - trying to refurbish my High Definition Graphics model 1.

I will donate my Model 2 to the animalstyle cause if this doesn't work out.

crap - never thought to look up tototek!  i still have my old programmer and flash cart from them...  pretty reliable flashcart but no usb. 

Tototek also has some too.  I might order there SMS version and replace the one in mine.  Let us know how it goes!

This makes me think. If you're only ever using a flash cartridge like the Everdrive, you might consider ditching the slot entirely and soldering wires from the holes to the cartridge pins. Then you could store the cartridge PCB inside the unit itself. Not sure if there's enough space to do this properly and if you can prepare external access to the SD card/USB connector, but perhaps a method worth considering.

I have stopped using the genesis on stage as of late because all of mine sorta flake a lot due to bad cart connections.   Anyone who's played a loud event knows that bumping bass and NES 72 connectors don't always go over well - welll... try the Genesis - it's even worse and most of the damn cart connectors are worn to shit.  At least on the NES you can replace them.  i wrote Kitch about it and tried to find the answer and pleaded that he might sell new connectors.  Seems as though there is already something in production - stop me if someone already posted this and if it's obvious as hell.  It took some digging to actually find:

specifically a 64Pin Card Edge Connector w/2.54mm pitch

I ordered some - i'll let you know how it goes - it's 64pins to desolder but i think its way worth it for playback stability right?  haha...
