I use it on every Game Boy before I send them out now!

Nope. It's actually perfectly flush with the face of a standard case. You could therefor cut a perfect hole and the chip would be flush with the surface. That's what I'm about to do with mine!
What exactly does this test?
It's the program that Nintendo used to test the DMGs before they went out.
It test the LCD, buttons, speaker, RAM and sound chip. Very handy for modders!

Thanks! Rushed it a bit and there's a gap on the left but it got the job done!
This doesnt work with flash carts? Maybe the new nano cart?
