I disagree...Covering songs helps you learn the program more because you don't really have to worry about getting the "right" sounding notes, develops your ear and gets you used to inputting rhythms, and gives you some sort of satisfaction for a first song because it's already something that you like.
Example, my first LSDJ song did none of that for me haha. I should have started with a cover.
I would agree that starting with covers helps you learn the program. This would be yet another reason NOT to publicly share your first efforts with a new method of making music.
