i have a yamaha pacifica guitar body that i'd like to rebuild. does anybody know about pickups and guitar electronics? i'd also be open to trying to put some other kind of modification on it if possible. any ideas or input would be helpful and appreciated!

If the modification doesn't relate to chipmusic, everything I've ever wanted to know about guitar electronics is available in a google search...
If you want to wire it as a normal strat you can get a wired pickguard from http://guitarfetish.com
Otherwise, please be a bit more specific about what you're working with and trying to do.

Internal Kaosspad 3, internal sustain and fuzz circuit. One active pickup, and one passive pickup. That would be the best guitar ever, 
Don't forget to add bypass switch(es).

I've always wanted a guitar with individual pickup switches. Oh, and Locking Tuners are a life saver.

Fernandes Sustainer kits are just that... To me they are too pricey to install in a starter guitar but I'd love to have one. A mini kp or some other sound maker (I considered a Monotron ribbon) can be fun if you have room for the route, the fuzz circuit is easy to make but more controllable as a pedal on the floor.
If you have sustainer money you can probably put in a midi kit and be a low bit version of Flashbulb.

I say pick your favorite of the ideas and run with it if you're good with a router and a drill. Of the ideas, the delay makes the most sense to me even though that sort of thing isn't supposed to come before your gain (because endless feedback and pitch effects without having to kneel = win)

thanks that's a helpful link.
unfortunately i don't know enough about electronics to know what's possible. i would like to at least make it a usable guitar again. if possible i might put in a mod of some kind. i thought some of you might know how to do that or maybe have ideas.

If you don't know how to conventionally wire an electric guitar, you should probably start with http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/ and maybe a guitar forum or two to get it working the "normal" way first. At the very least you should be able to connect the hot wire of a pickup to the "tip" part of the jack and the grounds to get a basic sound.
