i have run into a few people that have not known about the C and D layers. but that is not your problem
I do believe it is correct. Nanoloop for iPhone (and android) emphasize the loop, i guess.

I did my ep with just the a and b XD I don't know how I even wrote with only two.
There are some tricks you can do to "add" more when recording. You can edit the instrument live when another instrument is playing. Or, you can load a "new" .nan that is the same song with different patterns. If you load a song while a song is playing, it will wait until the end of the measure, so you don't have to worry about perfect timing. edit:I'm pretty sure on that last one it waits. I need to test it again.
