What is the best .wav settings for sample import? The piggy homepage only mentions 44.1 khz, but the wiki says all frequencies are okay. Does piggy convert all the samples down to 44.1 khz? Currently I'm using 16 bit @ 96 khz. Am I just wasting space?

In pure technical terms you are not wasting space. Especially for oscillators, 96Khz might be a good thing.
In terms of end result though, you will have to see what you do with those and if your music has relevance toward the subtle difference between 96 and 44.1
