----------------------------------------PCB prosound problems------------------------------------------

The kit I used: http://asmretro.com/diy-gear/pcb-prosound-v2

Hello!
I just recently installed my first PCB pro sound mod on my game boy which also has a Variable Clock v4 installed as well. I connected everything according to this guide on asmretro.com: http://asmretro.com/pcbmps-tutorial but I've still been encountering issues with the sound. The first time I attempted this the power board on the back PCB of the game boy had a component that started oozing a green substance and the whole PCB stopped working because of this. This is what that looked like:

The first time I installed it the wiring looked like this:

(There is green tape around the wires because I connected two together to make one and the tape covers the parts I soldered together):

Then the second time I wired it I thought that the prosound board maybe wasn't getting a good connection with the wires I soldered together so I used a new set of wires:

After doing this I still ran into problems with the prosound and could only hear parts of the sound coming out. Also after installing this mod the speaker now makes a static like noise when you adjust the sound and even when I removed the connections the speaker still produced this sound.

If anyone has any ideas that could fix this problem please let me know.

Thanks,
zaxxon

I am having the same problems as well. Contact ASM Retro.

Whoa. That's certainly not the pro sound causing the component to leak. I've never seen that before...

Do you have sound out of either jack?

Well I tried to PM him about this but he never responded. I'm sure he gets alot of pm's though so that's understandable. I'll try to contact him on his website later and see what he has to say.

Never heard back from you about this - did the one I installed for you work properly with your gear?

Where did you PM me? Here?

Well the first time I installed the PCB the component did that but now on the new board that component doesn't seem to get hot or cause any problems. I do get sound out of the normal jack but when you try to adjust the volume it starts making static noises and you do start losing noise out of different sides. Also the prosound jack just gives me partial amounts of sound or none at all.

I was starting to think my PM box was broken as I haven't received any PMs in months. I guess this confirms it.

Does your new board have the clock mod? If that leaking component was from the mod, it would've been from that and not the pro sound.

Is there any shorts at the solder points? It's hard to tell because it seems to be glued.

The prosound isn't going to give full volume.  You have to have it ran to a powered audio source.  Static during volume adjustment can be caused by a damaged or loose volume pot caused by too much heat during soldering but it doesn't look like you soldered to the pot so that shouldn't be the problem.

Yah my board does have a clock mod and I don't think the prosound directly caused the power board problem. But now that the new powerboard seems to be working fine the only problem left is with the audio. Here are some pictures of the solder points (without glue) by the pot if that helps:

Well even through a powered audio source the prosound doesn't work or makes whining noises.

Have you tested any different audio gear through the pro sound jack?

If you can't figure it out, one of us can take a look at it and get it up and running for you, if you're keen on shipping the motherboard to us.

Got my inbox worked out, turns out it was just full. So feel free to PM me if you prefer. smile
