Just wondering, if the frequencies (that only children can supposedly hear), for the Lavender Town theme in Pokemon Red and Green produced a binaural beat? There is of course the slightly unsettling fiction of it causing Japanese children to commit suicide, as well as stories of epileptic children having seizures to the theme. Any truth to the second thing? Or is the track just eerie and uncomfortable?

well it is true that some children got headaches from it and some even nosebleedings, but nothing more. if i remember correctly they were indeed a binaural beat.

Hmm. Listening to it now it's kind of a headache. Was the binaural beat created on purpose? Because I've yet to hear of it happening on accident, aha

Do you guys know what binaural beats are?

I know what they do more than I know what they are, thanks. But I always thought they were purposely crafted.

afaik the music composer wanted a creepy melody and stumbled across this kind of melodies. it gave him a slight shiver to listen to it, so he showed it to some of his coworkers. they felt at unease as well, so it seemed perfect. they didnt let children test-listen to the melody, thats why the early batches of pokemon green got the headache music for kids.

this may not be 100% accurate as i know it from a show on youtube and didnt check for evidences.

From my understanding, it's a complete hoax. The part about children committing suicide is untrue, and is part of a well known creepy-pasta (alongside the "white hand sprite" story).

From what I've read, this is Kulor's interpretation of Lavender town with said "binaural beats," creepy noises and whatnot (this is actually an NSF so it wasn't even made for GBC). So, this was not used in any beta of Red or Green. There may've been two versions of the Lavender Town music but according to bulbapedia there is not a dramatic difference between the two (save from the displacement of one of the parts by an octave, and that's if two versions actually exist).

Nope. Its all fake. There are tons of internet myths and stories about this. The song sounds creepy so people made up stuff that sounded convincing and it got passed around on the internet. Fearofdark is right, its part of some creepypasta.

I've never seen that. That is too cool.

yeah, the only way something like this couldve happened is if kids put on headphones, then laid down with their eyes closed listening to it for about an hour.

not to mention trying to get the gameboy to produce different high frequency tones playing in each ear for that amount of time, independent of the looping music

I'd been looking for that second one for ages, thanks for that.

I totally committed suicide just now after hearing the beta one.
For real though, that wailing in the beginning is pretty weird in a bad trip kinda way.

Technically, the "Beta" version, is actually fake. It's meant to hurt your ears, when listening to it.

Ah, OK. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I also can't really tell a big difference between the Green one and the Blue one.

Well no, it's not particularly either Pokemon Red and Green, vs. Pokemon Red and Blue, it's that, the "beta" version is just made up. Also, yes, I think there is a VERY SLIGHT difference between Green and (US) Blue, but it's not too much of a difference. One thing is, I swear it seems like in the Japanese version of Pokemon Blue, I swear Lavender Town's theme sounds somewhat "piercing" to your ears.

I'll give it a listen!
