In my final paper for my post-war Japan class, I'm trying to argue that for Japan, chipmusic is kind of the perfect embodiment of the mechanics of Japanese modern/postmodern culture (wherein the traditional meets the future and merge to become the present, as argued by Hiroki Azuma). I was wondering if a) anyone knows of any good academic resources about chipmusic and b) if so, if any involve the Japanese scene.
I am not aware of japan specific media, but Im sure many of the following touch on it:
dang! that's rad

Not academic, but in my anecdotal experience I've seen that since videogames are such a part of pop culture over there (like tv and movies here), that chip music is not seen as such a weird unknown thing. Because of that, you hear a lot more videogame references, remixes, and covers in their music. You DON'T find that so much in the western scene because chip music is still trying to find an identity independent of videogames.
you know you dont have to work chip music into every thing you do
good luck though

Oh shit I didn't know--better start over.
I just felt like it because I thought of chipmusic when I was reading a certain book for the class.
Thank you.
Thanks for the support, all.
