Just before sending the order oversea for cartridge and stuff, i'd like to check if I can maybe find some components for free at work.
don't have the device here in hands right now, could someone very kind and patient give me the actual backlight dimmensions ? (metric system is welcome)

Not sure that a backlight panel is something that's very easy to DIY. Where do you work? The thing with a backlight panel is that it also comes with polarization film to make the dot matrix screen visble.
The screen is about 66mm diagonally across.
That said, homemade backlights never look anywhere near as good as those you would find on Kitsch, ASM, or anyone else who sells them. Here's a tutorial from forever ago of how to make your own backlight out of a CD jewel case and some other stuff: http://www.der-warst.de/warstware/backlight.html
thing is that i work for a company that makes thermostats, various forms, sizes and backlight coulours...
they look absolutely the same than the ones from kits... including the resistors...
so I was just wondering if... thanks for the mesure anyway!!
