So... I'm having difficulty getting anything to recognize these samples due to them being in "iff format" which has no extension.  Am I missing something or is there a trick to getting these into a useable-with-modern-software format?

What are you converting them in? Perhaps try importing them as raw audio.

They're raws. If you add a wav header it should be fine.  Does piggy eat wav?
Back when alex_mauer packed them together I noted this data:
8bit / pcm / signed / no endian / 8363Hz

Switch Sound file converter is what I'm trying at the moment and it can't tell what the files are.  I'll give Audacity a try when I get home (importing RAW as you suggest).

Try SoX. I don't remember quite how to use it, but it should be easy to do a batch conversion[/resampling] of all the samples using that.
