I'd like to get some new gear to play around with. Gameboys are cool and all, but I'd like to branch out a little bit.  Currently I'm just using two gameboys with lsdj mixed with a Numark X6. Occasionally I'll add a reverb pedal to the mix.

I can't spend any more than 200$. I'm looking for something small that I can synthesize and compose with. (not just a keyboard synth, but something I can program.) It doesn't necessarily have to be a tracker although that would be a bonus, and it would need to have support for multiple song saves. Ideally I could sync it with my lsdj setup without too much hassle.

LGPT seems like a viable option, but I'm curious for anything else out there. And I don't have a psp or anything else to run it on besides a laptop.

Some common things I see people mixing into their chip setups are Kaoss Pads and Kaossilators, I've looked these over but I'm hesitant to get one. I've played around with a friends kaossilator and it's a ton of noisy fun, but only being able to hold and loop a couple bars of music at a time does not seem useful to me.

I've been eyeing the Nerdsynth, that's probably the closest thing to what I'm looking for, but who knows when it will be available.
The Bastl Instruments and the Acid-Py groove box look pretty cool.

You can get a PSP 2001 for $60 or less - GameStop is a surefire way to get one, you can usually talk them down on their price. Then you can have LGPT with money left over - enough to buy a kaoss product, or another fx thingie.

OR, you could consider an NES and a powerpak. The powerpak approaches $100, but a working NES can be had super cheap with a little elbow grease. Then you could run NTRQ/Pulsar/anything Neil Baldwin made.

ive been impressed with the cheap korg analogue stuff. limited save capability but you can sync from the GB easily sending a click from the noise channel.

I like to send the click to sync signal to the monotribe then out to my volca beats.

hahaha, with $200, you could buy all the Monotrons and just have a good laugh playing around with them. I know I have.

If you're looking for something you can do some serious programming with, then I recommend you save up another $300 for a Monome (http://monome.org/devices/). The site advertises them as more of a minimalist thing, but even if you aren't into the whole minimalist scene they can be pretty powerful. Regardless, these things are very cool and the people who make them will charge little to nothing for repairs if anything happens to it so its a guaranteed win if you're willin' to shell out the big bucks.

Get a casio CZ 101. Awesome, battery powered keytar synth with midi. Phase Distortion synthesis is really pretty poweful and hip deep in bad ass.

I am honestly amazed that i dont think ive ever seen one at a chip show ever.

Edit: Looks like a site error. If you go here http://www.openmusiclabs.com/store1/midivamp1-store/ it's out of stock.

yea thats weird, because you can add to to the cart from your link but on the other link it notes:

"Note: For now we are retiring the MIDIvampire-I. If you would like to see it brought back, drop us a line at [email protected]. If enough people email, we will do a resurrection campaign through crowdsupply."

I was about to email them and just see if I could order 10 of them. ha.

midivamp 2 is a different product than vamp1, and is in stock apparently.

plenty of cool old grooveboxes around. Korg ER-1's are always cheap and can do some pretty neat stuff. maybe not great for anything melodic, though.
