Sorry if this is a totally n00by question, but is it possible to back up .sav files from Pulsar onto your computer, in at least a similar method to LSDJ? Being the "LSDJ of the NES" and all, wanted to see if it's possible, and how to go about doing it. I'm using a Mac.

That's probably the only thing that's stopping me from yelling SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY, at this point.

Yes, but not as eaily as LSDj. The SRAM in any NES cart may be accessed via the cart edge and there are many hardware solutions for backing up software. Solutions such as:
Retrode: (sold out)

However, DSC's carts contain a secondary battery holder in parallel with the first battery. This allows for two things 1. hot swapping batteries without the loss of save files or 2. installing 2 batteries at once for double the lifespan.

Jazzmarazz is right.  I personally use CopyNES to save .sav files.  The real purpose of these carts is to introduce more people into using the NES as a synth/sound machine.  Making it easy to just insert cart and have fun.   Without having to understand memory mappers and CIC chips etc.  Not taking anything from others who have done an amazing job adding USB and easy methods to 'make' carts as well as designing ingenious copy protection work arounds.  Many musicians are still unaware of how powerful some of these programs really are.  I'm hoping to change that, even if it is just a few people at a time:)

I would love to own these carts. They look totally awesome. But I'm afraid that they will be sold out by the time I have the $150 saved up to get them.

Will there be a second run?

And what donor carts would you need to do a second run?

I don't know about a second run yet.  I would need to consult Neil, but I'm sure we can work something out when you are ready.
As far as donors I use Nobunaga's Ambition which I usually purchase off of eBay when they come up.  I then desolder the PRG prom and the two 8K SRAM chips.  Then I desolder the CIC chip and cut the necessary traces.  I then solder in the 256K SRAM chip as well as the hex inverter ic and the Ciclone chip.  Solder in the jumper wires and test.  Then desolder the old battery and add the two battery holders.  Then clean up an old grey shell by running it through the dishwasher, custom cut the vinyl label and do final testing to make sure the cart works flawlessly and that the battery is saving properly.  I dare not calculate the time put into these.  Again I really would like more people to try Neil's software.  I love PR8 and Pulsar.  I think they are gems that have been undiscovered by most.  Seems Gameboy always gets the action around here, but PR8 and Pulsar really deserves more attention.

I love PR8 and Pulsar. I run them on an emulater but I would love to run them on actual hardware. I don't have any of those donor carts in my collection but I will do my best to find at least two copies and save up some cash. I hope these carts get more people using neil's software. PR8 and Pulsar make some seriously killer sound.
