i dont't know, which japanese reggae release are we talking about?
I'm surprised nobody mentioned The J. Arthur Keenes Band, but I guess that's because there tend to just be reggae elements rather than a full focus:
really really good release! though vocals could have been mixed a little better, vocalists are sick and ep is fucking raw and vibing, I love japanese reggae singing. you cant listen to original Wu Tang releases and say the mix is perfect!
I was writing in Japanese a little the other month but do not have a grasp of the language enough to write full songs, i was even thinking of asking a japanese vocalist to ghost write for me.
^these J. Arthur Keen Band songs are freaking sick too
There's plenty of recommendations in the 8-bit reggae book too. Mortimer Twang made some amazing C64 and Amiga reggae/dub/jungle stuff. Buggy Dub and Amanda could be things to look for. Cow'p might be considered reggae too?
And here's some dub stuff I put out:

http://bleepstreet.bandcamp.com/track/papaya-dub
may be a little too experimental to call it ragga or dub but pepperment pony's gamebwoy riddim is one of my favorite chip albums of all time

and its sequel is good too

ddim-vol-2
was gonna say helgeland but it looks like you fuk with them already. good choice
Here's some even more relevant J. Arthur Keenes Band songs I somehow forgot: http://metrodub.co/release/5.html

??? is the best. Most of you will probably know this chipflip release but I am always very very happy to share it because it is so so so good!
Totally agree. ???'s the man. The only bad thing about that chipflip release is that it makes me wanna go back smoking every day again.
Hey, I was just looking into ???/qqq, because I happily rediscovered Wall You Need today on my harddrive, and it seems they're now known as Faderunner https://soundcloud.com/faderunner (also they have a Chipmusic.org profile? chipmusic.org/%3f%3f%3f hey wussup)
