Hi - i'm a newbe here - need your advice pls
i have bought a c64g and i think i've got fake or dead filter in my sid - when i was using cynthcart (loaded from tape) when filter option is turned on there is no sound - if i turn it off everything is ok - when its disabled everything is ok - but with filter on i get very low almost unhearable sound - when i turn on fifhts option i can hear something - and when i press two notes or three at once there is a sound - shall i sell it or is there a way to fix it? maybe it's a fuse or something?

in couple of days i will be able to test my other c64 which i bought for 6581 sid (i hope it will be fine heh) - but i want 8580 too - can you pls help me? i've ordered mssiah and i'm afraid i will have to buy next c64g but right now i'm afraid there are a lot of fake /demaged sids out there -

where i can buy tested one? with working sid filter?

have you tried to change the filter amount (I don't remember right now the key combination, so check it out)?. if you still have issues, maybe you shoud check the motherboard for damaged parts. if your sid is damaged, your two only options are hunting for sid on the internet (pretty rare now days) or trying to get a new c64 with (hopefully) a working sid. most of the time. i've seen people selling c64's on ebay and clearly are you best choice to get a working one unless specified.

Do you really have a c64g? If so, those are kings rare. Flip it and buy yourself two regular breadbins or c64c's.

And yes, SIDs are notorious for dying of a number of reasons. Bad controller inputs, wrong power supplies, etc. Its tough, but the swinsids are pretty close too.

they were mass produced in Germany/China and many of them are being sold cheap in here - but most of them have filter problems...

i will be replaycing my c64g sid - just found a good dealer from Germany - 28$ for 8580 sid tested with working filter smile
