Sabrepulse.
First chiptune artist I ever heard. Still the best. Genius of the highest order.
Been listening to video game music my whole life but only recently started listening to artists like the ones mentioned. For me its got to be chipzel, lukhash and anamanaguchi
Everyone from Piko Piko Detroit that has inspired me, Boaconstructor, Sabrepulse, Trey Frey, Anamanaguchi. Chiptune has brought so many amazing people into my life.

I SAID MOSTLY
I got into chiptune by first hearing keygen (tracker) music in cracktros and keygens (I used to have lots of pirated software when I got my first PC in 2004). I didn't actually start listening to it really until later because I always thought it wasn't real music given that it was made exclusively by electronic means and nothing else sounded like it.
Skip forward to 2007-2008 and I heard this song composed by Timbaland:
Hearing it for the first time I was blown away. My initial reaction was "wow, they actually ripped off that keygen sound and now that I think of it, it sounds really cool and futuristic". I later looked it up and saw that Timbaland actually used a MIDI synth (Elektron Sidstation) based around the SID chip in the Commodore 64 to create these sounds I recognized from keygen music. That quickly made me realize how much I actually liked the sound of chip music. It was very different compared to everything else and it sounded like something from the future.
Eventually I found a chiptune forum since I started to love the music so much. I joined 8bitcollective in 2008 or 2009 (I can't remember) and I stumbled upon 4mat's songs there and I recognized a lot of the sounds I loved from keygen\tracker music because after all, 4mat was a tracker musician and somewhat of a legend in that scene (he's one of the first musicians to recreate chip\SID-like sounds in a sample based tracker). I've been blown away by his music ever since. He has his own style that gets better and better with each release. He's incredibly creative and talented and one of the few artists I really look up to—in fact I can't even think of anyone else off the top of my head that is as great as him. If I had the means I would totally want to fund his music projects (if I had a lot of money I would probably offer him money just to do what he does). I always look forward to new releases from him because they are almost guaranteed to be a hit.

Timbaland. I hate to be that guy, but you're aware that he's proud of the fact that he constantly gets away with plagiarism, right? I mean, there's the whole "Acidjazzed Evening" thing, on top of a few others he's been called out on: https://youtu.be/M4KX7SkDe4Q
Who knows how many songs he's stolen at this point?
I know to many of us this is old news by now, but it's better to have redundant information than a lack thereof. Here are the details.
I'll go out on a positive note and say cheers to Tempest and his excellent original work.

Those guys are huge for me, too! Also, Boaconstructor, Trey Frey, and Knife City. Bit Shifter and Anamanaguchi got me started making chiptune in the first place.
This guy.
though really, too many to mention and much not in the scene.

Hoo boy.
- Trey Frey; (nuff said)
- K E N Z O; he showed me the ropes of ableton and glitch hop. Especially moody slow lo-fi stuff. And he's good at it too
- isqa; extremely good at glitch hop. I honestly think his work is some of the best glitch hop out there
- W-Fu !!!; Anime kawaii trash, but i'm trash sooooo
Anime kawaii trash
Is your name a refrence to Tamayura, by any chance?
The ones that I first discovered/listened to heavily/inspired me to write chip were:
Fighter X, Electric Children, IAYD, Sabrepulse, Anamanaguchi, Trey frey, and more I'm sure
The ones that heavily inspire me to this day are:
Fearofdark, Hertzdevil, and more
Roboctopus
Michael is one of the best general musicians to work in this medium, and this isn't the type of compliment I like to hand out. But he's also settled, he knows what his style is and even when branching out he lets that style shine through. He's a mature musician, essentially, someone with a lot of skills that he knows when not to use.
That's just musical stuff though, he's also extremely friendly and has probably caused more LSDJ improvement in the general user population than anyone else out there. I really admire people who can write tutorials as stand-alone writings, I love helping people out but I always need to know what they're trying to do first because I don't have a good grasp on what I can teach that people want to learn.

Hey! I know that guy! Such a talented person. He went to elementary school with my older sister so we've been friends since a very young age.
i'll mention the two that no one else will (and probably most people on this site don't even know about):
8cylinder: not only one of the noisiest, most unique artists ever to use chip hardware but he also made his own software (Sludgeon, Faderfox, Pounder, UCBN). was a huge influence on me back when i started using chip stuff in my music back in 2003. very happy that my final environmental sound collapse set in chicago was on the same bill as him
baseck: a master of using custom kits in lsdj and one of the hardest sounding artists to ever use a game boy. one half of sonic death rabbit (with wet mango). excellent musician who mastered the darker side of lsdj
neither do much chip stuff anymore, unsurprising with the way the scene has sort of focused heavily on hyper-melodic dance music over the past 8 years or so
Cerror and xylo of xyce ! These guys totally knows how to pull awesome songs and they can do it on any computers/consoles ! Really great guys too, always there to throw some tips and helping others ! Really want to see em' AFK someday !
Vim! This guy is doing tracker stuff for 20+ years now and he totally kick ass !!! From old school chipmusic to DnB to Dance music he knows how to compose em' with skills ! One of the first chipalbum I heard in my life back in 2006 was Extended Loo Breaks on 8BitPeoples and I totally love it, it's sooo groovy !!!!
Bitshifter ! I had the chance to pass some time with the Shifter back in 2011 when he did a show in Kitchener, Ontario ! It was Deadbeatblast's birthday and we hang (DBB, Beastmode, zazi/chroma, Bitshifter and myself) at his father house the day before, great time talking and playing some Atari ST ! Really great guy !!!
Let's finish this 4 guys admiration tradition of this thread with Yerzmyey, this guy is a real AY/YM genius and a really awesome guy !!! Always there to gives some of his super tricks to other people and really supportive too ! Like Vim he is also one of the first chipmusician I heard with AY Riders - ZX Spectrum is alive....ehhh wait nope it's not true HE really was the first chipmusician I heard with his TATU - 30 Minut cover on the We are the Strange trailer nearly 10 years ago !!!
There is so many names in this that I want to throw but it will take a century to write all these names and a reason so i'll make some greetings...Demo style !!!
Thumbs up to gwEm, Ultrasyd, Wiklund, 505, Joule, chibi-tech, XC3N, jefftheworld, Reed, DMA-SC, STu, HexOrder, Norrin_Radd, Phlogiston (Eirik Suhrke), maktone, Glenn Rune Gallefoss, Geir Tjelta, Pink of Abyss, etc. etc. !!!
