I think it's an interesting topic. Is there any way to simulate japanese main instruments sound or vibes with old consoles/hardware? Did you try?

If you want to simulate the sound of NES/Gameboy, then restrict yourself to only using certain waveforms on certain channels. Something like this:
Also, if you're using a C64. Don't use the filter of the SID, if you want to make it sound more like NES or so.
Not sure if this helps. Perhaps it wasn't this particular aspect of sound creation that you were interested in, but rather the more specific musical approach, regarding the harmonies and such things.

That's what I think, yep! Sounds like DPCM samples to me, and some really nice saw waves too.
