Woohoo, my first thread on Chipmusic.org!

Anyway, I love the sound of the Megadrive (particularly the music from the first Sonic games), and I want to make something which sounds similar... I want to try to get these sounds from either LSDJ or Plogue Chipsounds, though, rather than using real hardware or some Megadrive-specific software.

Does anybody have any pointers in how I could accomplish this with one or both of those pieces of software? I'm not entirely sure what the Megadrive was capable of hardware-wise (number of channels, synth types, samples, etc), so I am not sure where to start at all. I think I hear triangle waves in a lot of Megadrive tunes, but... ???

Appreciate any help!

This is the kind of thing I'm aiming for...

yeah anything FM based really  (never liked the sound much myself but im warming to it!)
you'll not get it out of LSDJ, so your best bet is a VST plugin.  (im assuming you can load into something these since you mentioned plogue chipsounds)

some limited OPL wizardry would get you closer to that sound ? gotta  check the specs of the audio capabilities sometime soon.

EDIT:

Maybe good adlib musician could make it sound the same. Screamtracker3 comes with OPL3 and sample usage, but never got it working/too much interested tongue.
