I just get an atari st but it doesn't have RCA output like other st. I would like to know where to get the information on how to mod it to get a decent sound output that i can plug in a mixer... I'm pretty good at soldering, I just didn't find a clear schematic with the right things to do inside the box...

Thanks!

This is how I did it: http://madeformono.blogspot.com/2008/10 … utput.html

Hi. If You mean the Atari STfm, then it has audio-output a little bit hidden (however very good because almost without distortions, in oposite to STe models).
You have to make a cable for RGB monitor. Separate for vision, separate for audio.
Because STfm's sound comes exactly from monitor output.

There are a lot of outputs you can add to an STf model.  As YERZMYEY said (and nordloef and Reteris via their posts) the STf models use the same DIN connector to output the video and sound to the monitor (which has a speaker in it).

The STf series uses the same housing that the other models do, so when you open it up you'll see a metal housing within the plastic housing that includes some holes that are meant for outputs that weren't used.
Cutting a hole in the plastic to line up with those holes in the metal housing will make you job easier and will put the output jack in a nice convenient spot.

Simply insert and fasten the output jack of choice (be it RCA, 1/4", 3.5mm) and solder the ground to any of the grounded plates on the mainboard.  The signal wire must be wired to pin 1 on the back of the 13 pin DIN connector.

The link below, like those above, includes that pinout info.  Just remember that you'll be soldering it from behind and so the pin numbering will be reversed.

If you want more details, I can take some pictures.  Or if you want a more detailed explaination just PM me.

Thank you so much guys... As I am very lucky I managed to get an STe instead on an STf or STfm... I'm pretty sure this tread will help many other chippers with their atari!

Peace!

STE and MEGA STE both have cinch out like AMIGA computers. However you can make audio out using http://pinouts.ru/Video/AtariStMonitor_pinout.shtml using 13 pin DIN connector http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/264899 … d-130.html have fun...

True. And even the sound will be better (almost NOT distorted).
On the other hand, however, sound from monitor output will be mono.

As for me - if I had 100% certainty that STe sends exactly the same sound to cinches and to monitor, then I would resign from stereo, for clean sound.

But still, as far as I know, not every STe has distorted sound.
