do any of you make quick sketches of songs you think contain valuable enough ideas that you shouldn't just attempt to perfect straight away? if so I'd love to hear them

here's one of mine (needs famitracker) it's a nice way to tell what you're doing right or wrong, I think.

I have been using this approach as of late, the flaws of your melody or structure become more apparent as time passes whilst not hearing it. I shamefully am one to think things are perfect when they actually need more time and effort.

edit: to answer your question, i write a at least a little bit every day, and most of it just gets vaulted

I tend to write lead sheets for quick sketches. It's a way of writing down the absolute essentials of an idea while leaving the arrangement completely open. I'd put some up, but the computer that I did most of my composing on is trashed.
