Try and pick up a roland MX5/edirol m-10e (they are the same thing) 10 channel battery powered line mixer with a couple of extra useful features. Also very light and slightly larger than a couple of VHS tapes.

For a cheap line mixer, I will recommend Behringer to everyone. I have the XENYX 1002B line mixer.
