Pardon the plugging, but figured you guys'd be into this: Over on Motherboard, we interviewed Morton Subotnick, who is pretty much THE guy (along with Don Buchla) who pioneered the first modular synths in the 60's.

Check it: http://motherboard.tv/2011/2/22/electri … -subotnick

Seriously, awesome. And Buchla is a sweet guy if you ever get to meet him.

i believe Moog also was one of the first.. not to get super technical but they were on opposite coasts and developed the stuff around the same time. hard to say who was first.. who really cares who was first but I'm just glad they all did what they did!

Modular gives me major boners.. you have no idea.  Better than Viagra.

@ZenAlbatross: If I could think of one more modular synthesizer topic worthy of an article on Motherboard, you should get them doing one on Raymond Scott. ^.=.^

if you wanna be technical about it, don preston is actually THE guy who pioneered the first modular synths in the 60's. he had one of three moogs that were available at the time, on loan from the man himself. not tryin to get all indignant on the thread or shit on it or nothin, but he did a lot more of note with the mothers of invention alone then he gets credit for.

Er, Don Preston is ferreal, don't get me wrong, but Subotnick/Buchla/Moog are all on the same level - people who BUILT the synths for people like Preston.
