Decade
2009, text-based computer drawing for print.Decade is a psychological landscape of my experience living in New York City from 1999–2009. It is a computer drawing executed in a text editor using the Unicode character set. This approach to creating graphics using text is commonly referred to as ASCII art and has a long history in the pirate software scene as a means for groups to tag releases with their unique signatures. Decade provides a symbolic framework for contextualizing and interpreting my body of work, acting as my own personal mark.

I attempted to post this on my Tumblr today only to have it get all janked up due to line breaks or ...? Then I decided that it was interesting and highly appropriate for that to happen. Also interesting that what would seem to be the most universal and simple form of computer art (ASCII) is completely at the mercy of the tool you're using to view it.
