How can you tell if a laptop has the OPL3 card?

Got a Toshiba S1800-354S here...

supported audio format : 16-bit stereo, SoundBlaster Pro compatible
supported sound standards : MIDI & 3D sound support
speakers : built-in stereo speakers
manufacturer : Toshiba Bass Enhanced Sound System

"SoundBlaster Pro compatible" is that a good sign, or does compatible mean it won't be an actual opl3?

Back in the day it meant it had an OPL3 chip, but I don't know about that in LAPTOPS, I always had desktops with SB compatible, OPL3 packing soundcards.

I'm not sure, I always bought the Crystal el-cheapo soundcards, and they had the OPL3

Have you already bought the computer?  If so check your system properties for the soundcard model and search for the specs on that.

im looking now but im going to say almost certainly not, it looks too recent.

I put up a post in this thread about toshiba laptops a few days ago.

I can't find the exact model you mentioned but looking on the detailed specs for two other 1800 series laptops they both use variants of something called an "AK4543 Codec Chip" which doesnt look very opl3 to me unfortunately. That being said, toshibas website it most helpful and lists the actual sound chipset on the few machines I looked at.
