First release from the brand new Metri label comes from the mysterious "sima" pseudonym.

"a / b" is the first iteration of the letter-EPs, a series of 4-track releases exploring a less common aesthetic within the chipmusic / micromusic-genre.

First half of the EP is a brutal techno onslaught based around improvised Gameboy audio, live-processed by a handful of effects. Sparse erratic rhythms paired with harsh drones and deep bass tones make up this quite challenging part of the release.

The b-side is filled with classic clicks & cuts-style rhythms. It uses the same improvisational techniques from the previous two tracks, but with different software running on the console.

All tracks were produced from improvisation sessions using two Gameboys through DSP-effects.

We at Metri hope you appreciate this release and look forward to the next in the series, which will be released in February.

This EP is download-only and costs a minimum of 2€ via Bandcamp.

A site called DINGUSDINGUS put up a pretty funny review

Coming in, all, at exactly eight minutes flat, the four experiments (at least that’s what I’d like to call them), contained on a / b, are jarring examples of what computers have done to music.  Some listen to this and hear chaos, they might even hear the devil himself, but some listen to it and hear pure beauty.  It’s this quality that might very well make Metri’s work some of the most important around.  Whichever side of the fence you’re on, there are rewarding moments that revolve around common rhythmic principles; have fun finding them.
