I'm foggy here, but there is something to do with those adapters not actually converting it correctly to true PS/2. Similarly, it seems like some modern keyboards internally use a usb to PS/2 adapter. I'm super foggy here, but for sure I'd try to track down a true PS/2 keyboard and see what happens.
Power issues could very likely be an issue if the DMG is backlit as well. I know some DMGs have power issues with backlighting alone. That, said, my DMG is backlit and works fine with a PS/2 keyboard, but I have no idea what kind of power the VGA adapter draws.
Thanks again for the response! I will try more true ps/2 keyboards. The thing that confuses me the most is that I've gotten it to randomly work with my current set up. This is not backlit and I've tried removing the porchie board- which didn't do anything unfortunately.
I replaced the batteries for a fresh pair and it worked with no problem at all. I then turned off my Gameboy, turned it back on, and the keyboard stopped working. Going back to the spamming F4 note. This happened to me once before too, except that it stopped working without me turning off the Gameboy (I was pressing a bunch of keyboard notes successfully, when it stopped working and started spamming F4)

I have! I've tried using a couple of USB keyboard and a USB > PS/2 adapter, with the same result. I saw videos of people using the exact keyboard I have- so I'd like to say that's not the problem. I've also resoldered the connections to make sure nothing was shorting out, that didn't help either though
I'm a bit lost for explanations, I have a DMG power cord coming in the mail so I can test if it's a power issue next.
It also has a Porchie (VGA out board) installed which could be drawing just enough power to cause issues with my keyboard???? Idk further testing is required.

Does anyone know why my ps/2 keyboard for LSDJ will work extremely rarely and will more commonly spam the F4 note (and potentially the start button)? Thanks!
