I wasn't trying to say my music was better. I was just saying, if this guy, who is an actual musician (and a pretty good one at that) that makes actual money and has actual fans, and his album is only approximately better than anything I can ever hope to make, then I feel better about myself.

right on, man. I guess that's just the vagueness internet communication. I guess your previous post could be interpreted in any number of ways.

But at the end of the day, it just sounds like a track he whipped up on a plane ride, and then sort of forgot about it till one day he played it through and amp and called it good. No doubt in my mind he could make a truly killer and impressive release if he wanted to, he has more musical talent than I have in my pinky toe. But he just didn't. It's half way there, and within the context of this release, it's totally fine.

Totally feel you on this one. I also feel like he could have made the track a bit more polished or he spent more time, it could be a really, really solid track instead of a decent track.

Ive defended the whole perception as chiptune as pitchforks against non-scene musicans while coddling unlistenable amateurs up to this point, but all the reaction to this guy really reeks of sour grapes.

Totally! You wouldn't see a thread here "so and so has a new album" followed by comments about how the music sucks and everyone thinks their music is better... not very nice, and also yeah seems people are hating cause he's not in "the scene"? I mean, if the guy was on this forum and read this, I'd feel pretty ashamed...

Like I said the music wasn't my style, but the acoustics sound great and there's some really cool sounds. Great production as well. I like this a lot more than a lot of the chip stuff I stumble upon randomly.
Also, is it really that much weirder than the fuck buttons other stuff?

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the release

edit: listening to the track a second time and it's growing on me a bit.

Didnt dig the music as a whole, but it was refreshing to hear it recorded differently than traditional methods. Sounds like he has a miced amp and hes recording from that. Some really cool sounds as well. Well i hope the rest is good

The only problem I ever had was getting the drivers to be recognized by my os (windows 7 64bit). The other downside being that they run off sram, like most other carts. In other words, this means that the .sav files are being sustained by the cartridges internal battery, which can last anywhere from a year to several years, depending on how much you use it and possibly other factors that I am unaware of.

This shouldn't be a problem if you back up your music regularly.

If you can scrounge up the extra cash, I highly suggest looking into a Drag n Derp. They are super easy to use and don't rely on an internal battery or use sram. Thus they are more stable and easier to back up. Well worth the investment. Well, good luck.

I think that the disrupts lsdj album is just what i tried to explain about the techniques side. It's great composingwise, but the sound design is very basic lsdj stuff and nowadays that makes my ears hurt, no matter what the genre is.

Agreed! A lot of 8bit reggae is hard to listen to cause the sound design and instrumentation sounds so generic. I gotta go back to metrodub and find some gems, but I remember skipping through releases and many sounded super generic as far as sound/synthesis. One of my fav chip reggae traks is by ???. The song is called machine gum. It's impossible for me to find cause his name messes with search results. He changed his name actually but I don't remember what he changed it to.

Gave that Japanese reggae album a listen recently and although the music was good, the vocals were terribly mixed (too loud in the mix, and very dry)and that made it a bit unpleasant for me.

I've been meaning to make some reggae for quite some time. I plan on doing a release in the future. I think it's awesome that 8-bit reggae has it's own scene, and a book! Wow! Can't wait to see the scene grow.

yeahhh. lovin this
