Two of my favs combining forces

Think there's any danger to the altane or cart by doing this?

Does a quick USB disconnect do the trick? I don't have one to test at the moment.

I couldn't reconnect the USB fast enough but I succeeded switching pages by pulling out the cart and slapping it back in. Good idea! Pretty fiddly but good enough for now.

I think this has already come up but is there hope for an update that can access page two of an ems64? Or possibly a manual hardware trick that could do it (like a jumper added to the cart PCB or some such)?

Oh! So the polarized film isn't 100% necessary (it just so happened that your transflective film was polarized)?

Correct!

Awesome. I'll post some results in this thread soon!

This is super interesting! I always thought that it was impossible to remove the reflective layer due to it being glass, but I guess using a different LCD works too.

It certainly is!

This is actually the original gbc lcd screen. The reflective layer is embedded inside the glass so can't be removed. This is simply a light and polarity trick I discovered while fiddling with the transflective film of an old PDA on a tip from another GB Reddit user. Can't remember his name or I'd mention him as well.

Oh! So the polarized film isn't 100% necessary (it just so happened that your transflective film was polarized)?

Thanks for posting! I've got several not-so-great GBCs that I'm experimenting on this week.

Did you use any particular method to remove the metal frame? Just careful prying or some solvent?

I'm still genuinely curious about how he makes music with his sega. Is it with a piece of software on the genesis like YMDj, or with a cross-platform tool like deflemask, or by driving the chip with something else...?

At best he's using instruments ripped from genesis roms in FMdrive VST but I honestly think he just has a Sonic soundfont or sample pack.

EDIT: FMdrive is a really impressive piece of software by the way http://www.alyjameslab.com/alyjameslabfmdrive.html

Well he responded. Seems like a nice guy and appreciated the tracks I sent him.

Perhaps he simply did not know that there was already a scene out there, or there is a misunderstanding. Maybe if we all respond to him with kindness, he will have more understanding of our work.

I don't know, I'm more inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt and to build bridges rather than toss stones. Maybe something good can come of that.

I had several interactions with him before he closed hit twitter.  I kept emphasizing that the issue was not with his music or the fact that it was house (which he kept insisting was our problem, that we didn't like him making house music with a sega lol).  I explained that it was his ridiculous claim of being first and his nonsense description of how he supposedly uses the soundchip.  He came back with "yes I know there is chiptune house music but i don't like any of it! just accept that and leave me alone!".  So yeah, he's a fake-ass douche that is now embarrassed as well.  Whatevs.

Your interface is racist.

Would the preference be a USB-Midi input/output or a traditional MIDI I/O?

If I had to choose between usb or din I'd take usb for sure.

Just a little bump to raise awareness on this. The more I think about it the more I really like this project. heart

This Friday!
