hey guys --

thanks so much for your support! this album took the longest to produce out of any album I've ever done (but it totally shows), and honestly, I've changed a lot during the production of it.

so it makes a lot of sense to me that this would be the last space town savior album -- I feel like I've reached the point where I'm comfortable of letting go of the name and project, and even before this album was completed I was writing and releasing work under the name space town (which is what everyone called me anyway).

space town savior was a musician first and foremost. space town means something a little different, and I'm honestly not quite sure what that is, but I'm really excited about what the future holds for whatever music/games/THINGS I make.

it's been a fun ride, but I'm totally ready for new things! hopefully you'll join me smile

on a more positive note, other articles by rei can be found here: http://ettugamer.com/

of note is the dissections of kojima games and how terribly they treat women

As much as the wink makes it a half joke, it's much more than half-serious anymore.

i'll take a less diplomatic approach I think

we don't share the same opinion, but I'm not the one who looked at something that someone obviously spent a long time writing and declared, without provocation, that it was "bullshit" and that you felt sorry for the author, but only after laughing at the article

I'm not interested in the rationale behind the opinion of someone who drops into a thread, unsolicited, to hate on something

that's the job of social media

Probably one of the most bullshit extrapolated fantasies about a game I've ever read. I was laughing, and then I ended up feeling sorry for this person by the end of it.

its hard to see what possible motive a music critic on a music critics website might have for writing a massive piece about why music criticism is super important and vital shit that you have to be really clever to do

come on that's a little reductionist

like tinymixtapes is one of the better sites re: music writing and self-awareness

and the piece reads to me more like a call to action for other websites to step it up, as opposed to attempting to elevate music criticism's social capital

that doesn't really matter though, the point is that both objectivity and subjectivity have their place when evaluating music, and it's important to examine where each fits in

that's all

so all of you are correct

You are all correct in the wrong ways always and never

if you want an in-depth critique of this game pm me or just let me know somehow!

the tl;dr version is I really like it! but I think you could go even farther with the "no shooting" rule -- you're creating a weird dissonance when you make a game ostensibly about exploration and stuff and then put intense music and other ships that shoot at you and asteroids. all of those things suggest a way to at least interact with the threats to get them to disappear w/out just running into them, so you can either create that interaction or get rid of the threats. either way it'll make the game more cohesive imo!

it's really cool though big_smile

dense but it's a really interesting meditation about live performance of chipmusic: http://arpjournal.com/1888/how-to-refor … chipmusic/

he's pretty good tho

performing music live is kind of one of the most narcissistic things you can do, honestly

think about it -- you're taking people's time and money and asking them to stand there and listen to you, specifically, even though they could just download your music on the internet and listen to it at home

performance is a social contract you're signing with the audience, basically, and imo it's worth it to really consider that contract if you want to be known as a good performer

for some people that means crazy technical skills (araabmuzik) and for some people that means crazy spectacle (anyone playing a rave in 2014, araabmuzik)

but it's important to justify your reason for being on that stage, if only because people are spending time/money on you and you better deliver

I write all my songs in live mode and perform them in live mode, and each song is 2xLSDJ so I basically (used to) have 4 gameboys running through a mixer on stage playing 2 songs that I'm manually syncing the bpm of, and that's only because I kept looking for ways to up my performance game because I can't banter and I can't not be doing something on stage that doesn't involve tinkering with the mix or whatever

(knowing your own limitations as a performer is really important so you can cover up what you find uninteresting about your own performances)

not saying that you have to do what I do because it's super inefficient honestly, but I go into performances thinking "if I was in the audience, would I be interested in what I was doing?" and I personally think that's a good way to challenge both myself and the audience -- I'm not pandering if I think what I'm doing isn't interesting

and btw probably 75 percent of the time the answer is no

should mention that this is definitely a prototype! but a prototype that I'm pretty proud of smile

some of the work done on this was by Alex Ahmed -- he basically set up the basics for the player movement that I elaborated on later

this is a thing I made for my masters program. it was finished in 3 weeks, plus a little extra I did on the side.

you should wear headphones for this

hopefully it doesn't freeze your browser when it loads but if it does don't worry it'll work (I hope)

the song featured is Surround from my EP EXPANSE, which you can find here: http://spacetown.bandcamp.com

thank you for playing
